Lets Talk Oscars

The good, the bad, the ugly, once again. I must say, I am certainly shocked as to how the ladies were unfortunately unimpressive for the last show of the season. The Globes had bigger guns brought out than tonight. I kept waiting and waiting, and all I got were pale nudes and fake hair (can't take the Tennessee out of Reece, huh). In very particular order, I have the best looks of the night and then the ones that shouldn't have even bothered. Trends for the evening included reds, pale palettes, dirty hair, heavy beading/sequins, clevage and awkward commentary. Miss Mila reigns supreme, and, well, the rest are just there.

Annie Hathaway in an almost vintage 92' Valentino bustle gown before her many hosting changes (which I thought were much better than this)

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang sans douche ex that ruined her life post Oscars last year. She isn't shining like she did in Marchesa last year, but still looks phenomenal. Her sense of humor while presenting really showed why America loves her.

Matthew Mcconaughey's more than gorgeous wife and handbag designer, Camila, was a favorite in the Kaufman Franco plunging black volume gown
Sharon Stone, age-like 60, channeling black swan, and I still want it. How Sharon Stone of her.

Gwyneth Paltrow has literally been everywhere this past season. From Glee to Country Strong- I kind of love it. She has major confidence, and isn't doing humble anywhere. She is straight sparkle in Calvin Klein. Always and forever my Margot Tenenbaum.

Cate Blanchett is creating buzz in Givenchy Haute Couture. It's sort of a bib, it's a little structured, it's genius.

And the back..

Florence Welch is a blast from the effing amazing past. Her vintage taste and eloquent manor takes me to chicistan. The way she quietly said "um, it's Valentino" in her accent was just as beautiful as her porcelain skin. I am also the president if her fan club.

A few thoughts for Hollywood's confirmed new it girl: She deserves to date JT, her body is sick in her lilac Elie Saab Couture, BUT her stylist needs to be fired because Halle Berry was in the black lace version 3 days ago. WOOPS.

Never the less, her sideswept waves and relaxed attitude made her the number one stunna'.

For the kind of like, but definitely not in love:

Little Hailee is only 14 and she helped Marchesa design her dress. The headband is unnecessary, but since she's so sweet, she deserves some acknowledgment.

ScarJo's hair hasn't been washed, but her curve hugging Dolce &Gabbana lace body con makes up for it.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier only because she's become skinny again. This is like rolling in Elmers Glue then jumping into a pile of sequins; however, girl looks good. Quote, unquote "Woof, I'm not missing her like candy".

This isn't Dawson's Creek anymore, but Jen Lindley is now wearing Chanel Haute Couture. It looked quite heavy when she was trying to make it down the red carpet, but bringing Busy as her date warmed my heart. Much better!

I wonder if Natalie's unborn baby is as disappointed as I am with her Oscar choice. Yes, it's Rodarte, and yes, they were shut out of the costume design category, but this is no bueno. I am reminded of Alba's pregnant Marchesa one shoulder three years ago and bored.

And for the 'what were they thinking' gals...

The necklace, Amy, the necklace. Her L'Wren Scott dress was great, but her hair and accessories ruined her. Fire that stylist, too.

Reece channeled 60s in her Armani Prive gown and I was about as bored with it as I was the actual show. I almost thought she was Jessica Simpson with that hair piece.

Nicole Kidman's Dior Couture would have been classified under this worst dressed category, but it just hurts the eyes. John Galliano must've been drinking when he designed this, too (fashion joke). Annie's wardrobe changes from the queen of all fashion choices, RZ, to come tomorrow

wolfpack

AFter previewing the Hangover 2, I have a few thoughts and questions. 1. Bradley Cooper continues to be ridiculous, Gloria Estefan 'Hot Hot Hot' 2. Why does Phil have a face tat? 3. I really want Alan's dog t-shirt

After seeing his tight graphic labrador t, I am now craving one myself! His eclectic taste has given me shopping ideas, and here are my Alan worthy spring picks.

i need and want and have to have

The March magazines have been out, and spring fashion is in full force (minus AW 11 showing) with florals, longer lengths, animal prints, greys and I could go on forever. I have officially found my most favorite spring shoe, and I am this close to puttin' em' on my Saks card. I blame and justify this past statement only because I've been watching too much SATC on E! and Carrie will obvs forever be my idol. My money will be sitting in my closet... The wedges are so straight 70s- good enough for Studio 54 dancing. Tory Burch's Drea wood stacked sandals are my pick for the newest spring arrivals. They could (and hopefully will be) be day to night shoes, perfect for drinks with friends, a day at work or date night. Lax shorts, a belted maxi or even cargo skinnies with a blazer would be perfect with the Dreas. Actually, anything would be perfect with the Dreas.

Fashion Week Roundup: Day 5&6

For my 100th post, I thought it would be nice to discuss the classics and a few new favorites; Oscar de la Renta and Michael Kors plus Rodarte, Halston, Marchesa and Tibi rounding out my 'it' list. ODLR started out very nordic and viking inspired with fur hoods and a color spectrum fit for Cnut. Dramatic details, Karlie Kloss and Oscar PR girl's tumblr really made the show. I am especially moved by the white feather dress topped off with the fur Moscow hat. The other vet, Michael, was all about practicality. Greys and camel were popular hues with large furs, deep plunges and extremely good looking males (the best accessory for fall is to be worn on your arm, maybe?). The skinny belts and wide leg jumpsuits are lax, yet versatile, and perfect for any occasion. Rodarte had a 'Little House on the Prairie' feel, and the quilt looking sheath dresses would have been perfect for picking tulips in Sweden in 1765. The side swept waves however, were perfect. More Black Swan, less Nellie Olsen. Big brother to SJP's namesake, Halston, was also practical with a sea of greens adorned with skinny belts. It became more dramatic as the girls finished with bright colors, sheer chiffon and a cream dress only SJP would dare to wear. Marchesa went MAJOR as usual, and tule, sequins and lace filled the air. I foresee actresses fighting over a few of the gowns for the Oscars. It's a little Elvira, but a girl can dream. Lastly, my most favorite of runway shows thus far is Tibi. No, it isn't high fashion, but wearability is a very important quality to have when one is a twenty-something. The models screamed 'tea for two' with easy pinned back hair, opaque tights and the most stunning, perfect party dresses, ever! I loved the color palettes, especially the blood orange long-sleeved romper. I'm pretty sure one girl took a tumble, as she is carrying her platforms down the runway. In better news, Tibi is accessible for a slightly heavy price, but so worth it. I'm already dreaming of fall fashion days in the city.

Fashion Week Roundup: Day 3&4

As NYFW gets closer to its end, more shows have come and gone. The 70's feel is still everywhere with DVF's iconic wrap dresses mixed with a Spanish influence. Colors were also vibrant in her collection along with Jill Stuart and her wild animal faces. She mixed bright hues with large color blocks and actual animal prints. Socks were worn with every shoe and a "new" and improved fanny pack showed up in a lovely brown leather. Tory Burch channeled the English countryside with tweeds, lace, wide legs and longer lengths. I was slightly disappointed with her all American girls, but her cross body leather and chain bags made it a bit better. Prabal Gurung started strong with high school model extraordinaire, Karlie Kloss, rocking the runway with a voluminous red dress and DIY ribbon tights. Mixed pinks and reds flowed throughout the show after strong black on white separates and dresses. Malandrino's walk through had the most major furs, midnight navy velvet gown and ManRepeller glasses. The girls looked so angry yet soft at the same time with their waves and stern facial expressions. The kinda' pregnant Victoria Beckham crossed the pond to show her latest collection and put a more than lovely production together. She produced intricate hooded dresses and knit cowl necks while putting almost every piece with fall to-the-knee boots or suede booties. Her sold out bags came down the runway, too.
Marc Jacobs literally just ended streaming live with celebrities dotting his front row. Leighton, Fergie, Molly Sims and Bryan Boy took in the metallics, black knits and polka dots galore. Jessica Stam managed to work a headband/miniberet, a mermaid scale top and patent glossy gloves. The perfect amount of love needed to end this Valentines Day

baby, baby, baby ohh-Grammys

With everyone having Bieber fever, they let their stylists pick out terrible outfits for them. The Grammys are my favorite award show by far with all the entertainment, but the artists' collaboration with designers have been a no go all evening. This usually happens at the Grammys because there are no rules and everyone is being all creative. Katy Perry had on custom Giorgio Armani angel wings, Kim K looked like a really expensive porn star and Miley has been munching too much after the salvia smokes. Alas, there were a few great picks, but the worst dress list outnumbers them by far-too many to even count, so, lets just award the ones that shined. And where were Bieber's wins??

-Julianne Huff was major spring in Malandrino. The colors perfectly flowed with her simple updo. It sort of looks like a quilt, but I love the mixed print
-Lea Michelle made a statement in her cutout black Emilio Pucci dress. Shocked she's not in ODLR
-Florence Welch always stands out, and this Givenchy Haute Couture version of the white swan is amazing
-Eva Longoria has made all of my best dressed lists this season. She is itty bitty and I love her. The Ashi Studio ruffle mixing black and white is flattering
-JLo is my standout, because look at her. She had twins, dated/married half of Hollywood and still looks fresh to death in Pucci and deadly Louboutins. Its loud, but at least it's not the sheer Versace accessorized with Puffy from 2000

Fashion Week Roundup: Day 1&2

Happy NY Fashion Week. Ready to Wear has begun, and it's all about relaxed, 70's, fur and flowy. Some were more feminine than others, and I appreciate the rawness and edgy feel of the more suited/day looks. Mixed prints were popular and volume was a big hit. I fell in love with the polkadot tights, sheer lace tops and thick, furry jackets. It seems as though everyone is getting groovy. In even bigger news, designers are streaming their shows live on Style.com. It's almost like you're there watching the show from a front row seat, but you can show up in your pajamas! Jill Stuart showed at 11am, Alexander Wang will show at 5pm and Altuzurra at 8pm. Here are a few of my favorite Fall 11' looks from Peter Som, Cynthia Rowley, Rebecca Taylor, Rebecca Minkoff, Christian Siriano and Jason Wu (my top star). There are many other designers that have showed since Thursday, but these are favorites. Check out the slideshows to see for yourself!
