NYE Eleven

Three days until one of the most glamourous holidays of the year! NYE has always been one of my favorites, and I can remember staying up to see the ball drop as a little girl. Now, the holiday is even better since it consists of dressing up, loud make-up, sequins and tons of sparkle. It is a night to break out the sequins and leave the tights at home (unless your dress is strapless and Taylor Momsen no-pants-short). I personally love a long sleeved body con silhouette and high high heels, less Kim Kardashion, more Nicole Richie. Also, leave the satin at home. Remember when the Pi Phi chapter at Cornell sent out the rules for recruitment? And I quote, "No one looks good in satin unless it is from Betsey Johnson or Dolce and Gabbana, you weigh less than 130 lbs, have three pairs of spanks on and it's New Years Eve". Sister President is right, so go more Herve Leger this year! Don't forget shimmery accessories, smokey eyes and great gloss, because everyone deserves a midnight kiss!

Party of One, Please

Since ditching Zacy a little over a week ago, Vanessa has been looking pretty good lately. She is definitely not one of my favorite starlets to follow, but I do love her sense of style (the majority of the time) and I think that she carries herself well (minus the vagina pic she sent and then later leaked for the world to see) for a 22 year old. Her hair (extensions) is always long and etherial, slightly stringy, but that look is very right right now. This red carpet photo op for her birthday on the 18th was at Pure at Caesars Palace and she seems to be staying quite positive about the break up, especially in that teeny-tiny Herve Leger number. Love her look. Drink up girlfriend, the party is just beginning.

Mango Winter Lookbook

Since working for Byran Morel this past summer, I have a special place in my heart for Mango. The Barcelona based brand was one of our clients, so I became very familiar with the AW10 collection. Now that ScarJo has left, Mango has picked up a few new faces to shoot for their upcoming collections, including socialite and City star, Olivia Palermo. Mango called up Terry Richardson, famous for his somewhat ronchy American Apparel editorials, and he shot Anja Rubik in Paris for their winter looks that can totally be transitional. It has a very Marc Jacobs SS11 70's feel that is relaxed, yet bright, which I greatly appreciate. Little shorts, maxi skirts, rich suedes, jacket furs and slouchy boots all a la' burnt orange. Very Spanish, si? Unfortunately, there are no Mango locations close, but you can always do a little online shopping.

Say Yes

Since something is apparently in the water, and an astounding number of our friends are getting engaged/married, I thought this was note worthy. There is not one girl who could say no if this was gifted (with a diamond to follow of course). It is definitely a beautiful way to express how you feel.

Love Her Look

Joanna Hillman is the Senior Fashion Market Editor for Harper’s Bazaar U.S. and one of my favorites to watch for inspiration. She is often photographed at fashion week or the it places to be, and I just can't seem to find anything wrong with her. Everything about her is amazing, and I am not the only one with this strong opinion. She rarely smiles, but when she does, she's very inviting. Hillman is straight glamour (often sporting Ray Bans which I still enjoy) and catches a lot of attention for her good taste. Add one part cool and two parts chic and you get this magical fashion girl.

Black Swan

"I had the craziest dream last night about a girl who was turned into a swan, but her prince falls for the wrong girl. And.. she kills herself."

So, I haven't seen the movie of the year yet, but I have it on my to do list for the week. Natalie and Mila have been getting Oscar buzz for months now, and apparently Wynona gives a crazy lady performance, too. I have been itching to see the film since I saw the first stills of the tutus. Since September when the cast hit the Venice Film Festival premier, everyone has been asking what the heck happens. So far I've taken in: Prima ballerina Nina wants the lead while her suffocating mother pushes her to insanity. Wynona's character also adds to the torment when she is stripped of the title because it is given to Nina. Cue Lily (Mila Kunis) who also brings in some crazy while being perfect in the instructor's eyes and who has the hots for Nina? Some has said its Freud's "the return of the repressed", and others say its the notion of empathizing with a character until you actually become it. I mean she does pull a feather out of her back in the trailer, right? Well, I am most concerned with seeing the costumes that Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy created. The CFDA Designer of the Year winners have concocted such intricate pieces that consist of angora wool, feathers, and hours and hours of work. Maybe they will get the Oscar, too. Above are inspired picks that can be "Black Swan" for an everyday look, Natalie Portman as the Black Swan, and design sketches of the actual costumes used.

Christmas Gift Guide: Hot for Teacher

As we all start our new paths in life, a few of our friends ( and one lovely roommate in particular) have decided to choose the path of teaching. More power to them because we all know how I feel about children. When I think of teachers, I think of my 5th grade social studies teacher and her holiday sweaters from JC Penny. Well, thank the fashion gods because times have changed and they have gotten a bit more chic. An Alexis Chung inspired Mulberry carryall is a must for toting all the graded tests and opague tights will come in handy for those early cold mornings. An oversized piece of House of Harlow statement jewelry will spice up any outfit and it has a vintage feel that could carry its own history lesson. Also, turn a black pencil skirt from day to night with sequins or flashy platform heels. Teachers can be everything nice and still have the spice this XMAS.

Happy Birthday to moi

I am truly thankful for all the wonderful people in my life that have been wishing me a happy birthday today. I am so lucky to have the ones that love me. Twenty three doesn't feel any different just yet! I also hope to have a birthday party like this one someday in feminine dresses with belted details and perfect party hair.

stripes, leopard and velvet. Oh My!

I thought this picture of Nicole Richie was appropriate since she celebrated her nuptials over the weekend with Joel at her father's Beverly Hill's mansion. There was even an elephant! As we anxiously await pictures to be sold to People, UsWeekly or whoever whoever bids higher, I can only imagine what her Marchesa dress will look like! Here she is wearing a jacket from her own Winter Kate line while out and about in NYC. I can always admire her loud, yet refined looks. Mixing the different prints and materials is a step outside of the box and is sure to get noticed. By adding tights to this she took the shorts from late summer/fall straight into winter! She also shows off her love of Chanel with her sunnies and what looks like 2.55 (maybe larger, maybe smaller) bag. As always, I'm obsessed!

Christmas Gift Guide: The I Want Everything Girl

We all know her, we all love her and we've all been her at one time. Part loud, part on-trend with edited looks, she may have too much 'stuff', but it can all be worn some how, some way. OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark, that supposedly ended two seasons ago, is constantly polished throughout the year. Draped dresses and masculine utilitarian boots balance one another out, while she lightly accessorizes with the forever amazing Nicole Richie's House of Harlow jewelry line. The French bulldog may be hard to travel with, but the Louis Vuitton 45 carryall will never get in the way. This girl can create many off duty looks, but she's most comfortable with the ones she loves (and maybe an off the shoulder top here and there). If this girl sounds familiar, here are some great suggestions for her.

Sincerely,

Remember when people used pens and paper to send messages? Well, the holidays bring Christmas/Hanukkah/NewYears (what have you) cards, and with all the holiday gifting comes thoughtful thank-you notes for those of you who have been lost in the information age. I have always loved sending cards and notes to friends and loved ones, and I especially love receiving them. A heartfelt written note or card means so much more than the emails, texts or even love faxes of our generation. A dear friend has always had incredible taste in stationary (among many other things) and I have tried to take notes from her. Here are a few of my picks filled with holiday cheer, and some that can be used for everyday dankes! Now get to writing, and don't forget the x's and o's.

All I Want for Christmas.. part deux

Marc by Marc Jacobs is hands down my favorite contemporary handbag label, and he never fails! After having two myself, I can vouch that they are durable, timeless, and compliments will occur on the reg. The only reason I am coveting this one is because every girl needs a new bag annually, and I have made no investments this past year. I mean, a bag can totally change the dynamic of one's outfit (and if it's truly amazing, like vintage 2.55 Chanel status, then life).

Christmas Gift Guide: Rolling Stone Chic

When buying for stylish girls that are a little edgy, but also have a bit of America's sweetheart underneath, go with sequins. Textures should include leather, embroidered tights, and feathery earrings (especially if they have rocked a peacock look in the past). For the girl who can effortlessly throw on a T shirt and look chic, she doesn't have to try hard, ever.

Hello, Lover

Everyone remembers their favorite Sex and the City episodes, and one of mine is when Carrie is shoe shopping for one last date with Big before his move to Napa (Season 4 "I Heart NY"). She sees a gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutins (way before they became notorious) in the window and says the infamous "Hello Lover" line. I felt this same way last week in Gucci when browsing after Thanksgiving dinner. After my man friend found a wonderful loafer that suited him, I was forced to try on the pair I had fallen in love with. The universe aligned, thanks to my small foot, and the display was a size 35.5 I'm already imagining what i will wear with them! Thank you, Santa.
